Foreword

The Namibian College of Open Learning continually evaluates its materials, programmes and services through the Research and Evaluation Unit. In doing that the College has the opportunity to identify areas of strengths as well as weaknesses.

It also has to find creative ways how to build on strengths and address weaknesses. It is regarded as important to have all necessary information and statistics available for planning purposes and in the process of making forecasts to ensure the optimal use of physical, financial and human resources.

It is with this background that NAMCOL publishes the Statistical Digest on an annual basis to the benefit of all key stakeholders and the wider Namibian society.

The data in the Statistical Digest is collected through the Data and Research Units at NAMCOL’s Head Office as well as through the Directorate of National Examinations and Assessment (DNEA) at the Ministry of Education. The document provides data on learner profiles, enrolment statistics, examination results, staffing and physical facilities.

This year we launch the Statistical Digest in a new A5 format, while it is also available on CD-ROM. In addition, it will be accessible through the NAMCOL website.

A brief summary of this document is available in the form of a statistical brochure. It is our sincere wish that our stakeholders will use this document to enhance their knowledge regarding NAMCOL.

The statistics re-confirm the important role NAMCOL plays in providing study opportunities for out-of school youth and adults.
