NAMCOL Learners

In terms of NAMCOL’s founding legislation, the College was established to design, develop and offer programmes intended to upgrade and enhance:

  • Levels of general education;

  • Professional skills;

  • Vocational skills; and

  • Economic self-improvement.

In order to meet the diverse educational needs of NAMCOL’s target groups, a variety of data on learners and potential learners is required. This Section of the Digest highlights information regarding the gender, age and occupation status of all learners enrolled at NAMCOL in 2004.

Occupations of Learners

It is considered essential to collect occupational data as well. Learners are, therefore, asked during registration whether they do any paid work apart from studying.

During the year 2004, 24 835 (98.2%) of the learners did not do any paid work compared to 457 (1.8%) who were employed. Please note that this data includes learners across all programmes offered by NAMCOL.
